The Community Garden
Before the turn of the millenium, before Big Brother and before Dyce in Bloom there was just waste ground. It had been a favourite playspot of local kids back in the sixties when the burn ran under the main road hidden behind two huge billboards. The billboards have gone and the burn now runs underground to the other side of Victoria street but the ground remained untended unwanted and unnoticed. Till Dyce in Bloom had an idea to turn it into the centre piece of the project. So in 1999 as the last few months of the 20th century came to a close so began the work to create the garden. The undergrowth removed and the ground stripped bare to produce a blank canvas on which the work could begin.
Plans were drawn up and altered as needed, pathways led around the garden, the pond inserted, moved, moved again... maybe over there.. No I liked it better where it was before. The Oil Flower was discovered and added, trees planted, flower beds arranaged till after many long hours and years of help from Mother Nature we have today the wonder that is the Community Garden
